Aquitaine is the most popular holiday region of France. On the Atlantic coast of France it is a region of natural beauty, with long sandy beaches, lakes, rivers and forests. Its historic past is spread across the Aquitaine region.
If you are staying in one of our holiday homes near the village of Montignac, then don't miss a visit to the prehistoric Lascaux Cave, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Bordeaux is the regional capital of Aquitaine. A city rich in history with a varied architectural, monuments and museums. But of course we remember that Bordeaux is a vast wine growing region too. Some of the finest wines in the World such as Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Pauillac, Margaux to name just a few.
The cuisine across this region tends to be more rustic with local specialities of duck, foie gras, mushrooms, truffle and not forgetting the fresh shellfish so readily available.
There is an abundance of activities to enjoy. The Dordogne river offers an alternative water source to the Atlantic coastline for swimming, canoeing and boat trips. Take your choice of hiking, cycling or horse riding. Further south towards the Pyrenees you can ski.
With so many popular attractions and all within easy reach of our holiday cottages you can appreciate why this region is so popular.
